      Biography:
      Kim Newlen, MA, RHIA has served in the Health Information Management profession for thirty-five (35) years. The first eighteen (18) years of her career path included serving as the Director of HIM in a variety of diverse healthcare entities inclusive of acute care, behavioral healthcare, long-term acute care, rehabilitation, and as a consultant. Over the past eighteen (18) years, Kim has served in the capacity of Department Chair and Associate Professor for the Health Information Technology / Medical Coding Specialist Program at Southern University at Shreveport. Kim’s teaching philosophy mirrors her life philosophy, “your destiny is not a matter of chance but rather choice….so choose to make a difference”.

      Biography:
      LaChandra Wells, BS, RHIT has served in the Health Information Management profession for ten (10) years. Five (5) years of her career, she served as a Medical Coder III for a large acute care health facility. Over the last five years, she has served in the capacity of the Professional Practice Experience Coordinator & Instructor for the Health Information Technology/Medical Coding Specialist Program at Southern University at Shreveport

      Biography:
      LaTanya Brittentine has been in the Health Information Management profession since 1991. With over twenty-seven (27) years of experience in HIM, the majority of her experience has been coding, long-term, and academia. While working in long-term and acute care, she served as HIM Manager, Coder, Auditor, and Analyst. In addition, she also worked in various acute care hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. Over the past sixteen (16) years, LaTanya has worked as an educator in the HIT/HIM programs for the Southern University System – thirteen (13) years at SUSLA and three (3) years at Southern University at New Orleans. Her teaching philosophy,” Knowledge and skill are the means by which a person embarks on the journey of life; but, it is understanding and imagination that determine how far a person ultimately travels.”- Anonymous

      Biography:
      Pamela McMillon, RHIT, CHAA has served as a part-time instructor in the Health Information Technology Program and Healthcare Access Associate Program for five (6) years at Southern University at Shreveport. For the past two years she has also served as a Medical Coder for a large acute care health facility in Shreveport. Pam has been instrumental in assisting with course development for the Healthcare Access Associate professional courses.

      Biography:
      Beverly Wallace, MA, RHIA has served in the Health Information Management profession for almost forty (40) years. She served in the capacity of Director of Health Information Management at one of the largest teaching hospitals in Shreveport for most of her professional career. Ms. Wallace has served as an adjunct faculty member for the HIT Program at SUSLA for over twenty (20) years and has also served as a consultant in HIM.
